Company Standards and Ethics

Electric Eel Studios is a small, UK-based, remote-first production company. We operate with a core team and build freelance crews and partnerships around each project.

We are committed to running our business responsibly, ethically and inclusively in both how we work and in the stories we tell.

Diversity & Inclusion

We believe better storytelling comes from different perspectives and lived experiences.

As a remote-first company, we are intentional about creating respectful and inclusive working environments online, on set and on location.

When engaging freelancers and collaborators, we are committed to:

  • Fair and transparent recruitment and pay

  • Clear expectations and open communication

  • Respectful conduct in digital and physical working environments

  • Widening our networks beyond familiar industry circles

  • We have zero tolerance for bullying, harassment or discrimination. Concerns can be raised directly with a Director in confidence.

Representation & Opportunity

We take a conscious and balanced approach to representation across our productions, both behind the camera and on screen.

We do not operate quotas. However, we make deliberate efforts to broaden opportunity across:

  • Gender and gender identity

  • Ethnic and cultural background

  • Disability and neurodiversity

  • Socio economic background

  • Regional diversity, including talent outside traditional industry hubs

  • Age and career stage

  • International perspectives, particularly in location-based work

As a remote-first company, we see flexibility as an opportunity to collaborate beyond traditional geographic centres.

Creative quality and specialist expertise remain central to our hiring and editorial decisions. At the same time, we are intentional about avoiding recruitment from the same networks and about building teams that reflect a wider range of experiences where practical and appropriate.

In our editorial work, we aim to:

  • Avoid stereotypes and assumptions

  • Reflect a range of voices where relevant

  • Work respectfully with contributors and communities

  • Be culturally aware, particularly on international productions
